CURRICULUM AND LEARNING

Blackwood Primary School is situated in attractive hills setting overlooking Wittunga Botanic Gardens.

With approximately 368 students in 13 classes, our students experience a quality teaching and learning program across a broad and rich curriculum.

Our highly professional staff have a strong commitment to whole school and individual student improvement.

All Staff work collaboratively in the planning and evaluation of our programs, to ensure we provide a balanced and consistent curriculum using the International Baccalaureate Primary Years and incorporating the Australian Curriculum.

We encourage inquiry and reflective practices in staff and students.

Our school is widely recognised for:
  • the quality of teaching and learning achieved
  • our broad and rich curriculum which offers a range of opportunities to discover and develop individual interests and skills
  • our clearly stated vision of the qualities we aim to develop in our students
  • our proximity to Blackwood High School and the opportunities this offers for convenience, continuity of learning and transition

Underpinning our IB programs is the IB Learner Profile, a set of attributes displayed by an internationally minded person. These attributes serve not only as a guide for the kind of student that will graduate from our school, but for all the learners in our school community, students, teachers and parents.

Our AIP at Blackwood Primary School has allowed for students throughout the school to build an inclusive and co-operative community. It has also provided opportunities for these children to have their specific educational and social needs addressed in a secure and caring environment.

We have specialist learning offered to our students via classes in Japanese, Music/Performing Arts and PE.
