SCHOOL PE AND SPORTING ACTIVITIES
At Blackwood Primary School physical activity is an important part of school life. The school is on 10 acres with large ovals, play grounds and many shaded areas which enables students to fully explore who they are physically by providing lots of space to be challenged in the environment.
Whole school activities are designed to integrate physical activity into the school life of students, and celebrate what students have learnt in PE Classes.

Whole School PE activities can include:
Sapsasa is an independent body which organises representational sport in both public and private primary schools for students aged 10 years and over. Sporting competitions organised by Sapsasa, in which our school has recently participated include:

Whole School PE activities can include:
- Athletics Day for 10 year olds and over
- Bluearth Sports Day for the whole school
- Community Sports Day
- Jump Rope For Heart jump off
- Harmony Day Indigenous Games
- Book Week fitness circuit
- Playing in ‘the gully’ during lunch breaks
- House team sports Carnival for Years 3-7
- Class fitness, brain breaks and skill lessons run by class teachers
- Sporting clinics run by community organisations, allowing students to experience a range of activities that they can then go out and participate in the community.
- Specialist PE lessons based on the Bluearth Approach. Students are challenged to explore, reflect and develop their participation in ball skills, coordination and agility, movement challenges and games, core, dynamic movement control and moving in the environment activities.
- Competitive sporting opportunities appropriate to the age of the student. Students who are turning 8 that year or who are in Year 3 and older are eligible to compete in school sport. Students who are 10 years and older may be eligible to compete in SAPSASA teams.
- All Reception students participate in a coordination program called ‘Action Based Learning’
- Student Leadership opportunities for a range of students and year levels.

- District and State Athletics, Cross Country and Swimming competitions
- Carnival days for Basketball and Beach Volleyball
- Knockout matches in girls and boys soccer, girls and boys netball and football
