Physical Education

Physical Education at Blackwood Primary School

Physical Education lessons at Blackwood Primary School focus on teaching students’ fundamental movement skills, minor games, and sports in a fun and safe environment. We strive to equip all students with skills and knowledge in a range of physical experiences so that they are motivated and confident to lead active, healthy lives. PE lessons are inclusive of everyone, no matter their physical abilities. Activities are adapted and differentiated to ensure all abilities and needs are catered for

All students have one 50-minute specialist PE lesson each week. Reception and Reception/Year 1 classes also participate in a coordination program called ‘Action Based Learning’ guided by Year 6 students who coach them through a series of 60 activities.

School Sport SA

School SportSA is an independent body which organises representational sport opportunities in schools for 10 – 12 year olds. Blackwood Primary School’s involvement in different activities depends on student interest. Students have the opportunity to participate at the following levels:

  • District Carnivals – Students in Year 4, 5 and 6 can represent our school at Cross Country, Swimming and Track and Field events against other schools in the Southern Heights District. Students who are successful at these events can go on to represent Southern Heights at State Championship events.
  • State Carnivals – Students in Year 5 and 6 can attend district trials to represent the Southern Heights District at a 3 Day State Carnival. Sports offered include AFL, Soccer, Hockey, Netball, Softball and Tennis.
  • Statewide Schools Knockout Competitions – Students in Year 5 and 6 can represent the school in knockout competitions against others schools. Winning teams progress to the next round of competition. Participation in these competitions depends on the number of interested students. In the past Blackwood Primary School has entered teams in Basketball, Cricket, Soccer and Netball.
