At Blackwood Primary School our Leadership team works in conjunction with our Pastoral Support workers provides help and support for you, your friends and our wider school community. We help you to manage things that are happening in your life and to develop skills and confidence.

Our Wellbeing Team promote and support student learning and wellbeing. They can:

  • Help to manage relationships with family, teachers and peers.
  • Support to manage issues of concern.
  • Provide Crisis responses.
  • Support to encourage attendance, behaviour and learning at school.

A common way the Student Wellbeing Team can support you is by offering to talk with others on your behalf for example with teachers, friends or parents.

PASTORAL CARE

We have two Pastoral Care Workers in our school who offer a unique dimension of care and support to our students and school community.

Pastoral Care Workers are positive role models who bring genuine compassion, understanding and practical ongoing support to students and families. They work alongside and compliment other welfare and support staff to create a caring and inclusive environment for all.

Our PCW’s are readily accessible in the school yard at break times, and supporting and working alongside teachers and students in classrooms.

They also support our extra curricular events and activities.

Some of the exciting programs that are offered include:

The Kickstart for Kids breakfast program. All students are welcome from 8.30 – 8.45 under the shelter by the canteen every day of the week.

Circle of Friends is a program for those who require support in the area of friendship. We have different groups of up to 6 students who meet weekly to discuss about what it means to be a friend and develop strategies for making and keeping friends.

UR STRONG

UR Strong is a whole school friendship program that teaches children the skills of friendship to create communities of kindness.

The ability to build positive strong relationships is at the heart of social and emotional well-being.  The UR Strong program teaches children the skills and language to be confident in navigating friendships and building stronger relationships.

Through the program teachers explicitly teach children how to develop healthy relationships and manage conflict in a respectful way.

The program is based on four Friendship facts:

  • No friendship is perfect
  • Every friendship is different
  • Trust and respect are the 2 most important qualities of a friendship
  • Friendships change and that’s ok.
