Student Voice and Leadership
Blackwood Primary School understands the importance of Student Voice and Leadership in developing student’s ability to think critically and be reflective. Â
Our Leadership opportunities allow students to:
- Build relationships between themselves, other students and their school community.
- Give input and take action to improve their class, school and wider community.
- Improve their skills in listening to others, respecting others’ opinions/views/thoughts, communicating their own points of view and problem-solving.
- Build awareness of how decisions are made and how they impact other people.
- Develop valuable leadership skills.
Student Action Team
Student Action Team provides opportunities for our leaders from each class to meet together and discuss important issues to them. Each class has two Student Action Team (SAT) representatives per semester who attend fortnightly SAT meetings. Our SAT meetings are run by our Senior Leaders in the school and overseen by a staff member. SAT representatives report back to each class during class meeting times.
Class meetingsÂ
Class meetings are held regularly in each classroom where students can raise important issues to take to SAT. Agendas for class meetings include a section when Student Action Team members are able to report back from their SAT meetings.
